"Wonderful fish, nice Italian staples"

A review of Granata by Jerzy - Friday 2nd of April 2010

Granata (occasionally appearing as Don Aldo's) is a nice, cosy restaurant that's one of the best places for fish in Colchester (Favoloso is the other one). The set Italian menu is by no means disappointing, but the real gems are the daily fish specials which are uniformly exquisite. The only drawback is that opening times are not posted anywhere visible (e.g. I believe it's closed on Sundays, but I'm not sure and never managed to ask). Favoloso (just up the hill) is the only close competition, and offers even better food at slightly higher prices. None of the other Colchester offerings of similar style (the chain restaurant/pizzerias like Ask, Strada, Zizzi, Prezzo, Frankie & Benny's or the independents like Portofino) are just not in the same league.
