"Gourmet dining in glorious Suffolk"

A new head chef, Marcus Verberne, is making a name for himself at the White Hart, a restaurant and former coaching inn deep in the Suffolk countryside at Nayland. Important to book to secure a table, especially at weekends.

Marcus, who has long cooked for celebrities at famous London restaurants The Ivy, J. Sheekey’s and Le Caprice, is causing something of a local sensation with the way he has transformed the menu in such a short time.

Like his celebrity mentor Mark Hix, New Zealander Marcus serves seriously good, locally sourced ingredients and cooks them simply, but with a twist, to bring out the flavours.

We stayed on a dinner, bed and breakfast package for two (prices vary, but great value) and we liked it so much that we’ve already booked again. Breakfast next day was oh-so-prettily served and delicious.

Overall, a wonderful experience all round. Full marks to the White Hart's owners for securing a chef with such an outstanding London pedigree..
